NARRATIVE BIOGRAPHY
 
Laura Susan Burns is a member and managing partner of the law firm Burns, & Brashier, LLC, located in Birmingham, Alabama, formerly Gregory, Burns & Brashier, LLC.  The firm has three lawyers, two partners and one associate.  Burns, & Brashier also employs four additional staff members, including one paralegal, two legal secretaries, and one runner.

Ms. Burns is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, with familial roots entrenched firmly in the Birmingham Community and is the mother of one child, Alexander Burns. 

In 1998, she graduated from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, where she earned her Bachelors degrees in English and Sociology.  She then attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where she was a member of the Cumberland Board of Trial Advocacy, the Cordell Hull Speakers Forum, and served on the Executive Committee of the Trial Board as Director of the Peterson National Trial Team Competition.  She earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Cumberland in December of 2001, taking the Alabama Bar Examination in February of 2002.

Ms. Burns joined the firm of Burgess & Hale, LLC in 2002 practicing in the areas of insurance defense litigation and corporate defense litigation.  She also began to practice in the area of complex divorce litigation, specializing in custody, alimony, division of marital assets, and business valuation cases. 

Ms. Burns is admitted to practice before all State and Federal Trial and Appellate Courts in Alabama, and is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute, the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Young Lawyers Section, the Alabama Municipal Attorneys Association, The Birmingham Chapter of Inns of Court, and the Family Law Section of the State of Alabama. .

Ms. Burns is  involved in various charitable and benevolent causes, including counsel and advice to battered women through the YWCA.  She volunteers in art exhibits dedicated to women who have suffered domestic violence, and donates her original paintings to various causes.
